When it comes to education for children and young people with moderate learning difficulties and complex needs, Thriftwood School in Chelmsford stands out as a beacon of hope and support. This remarkable institution has transformed the lives of many students, including our daughter, Sienna.

At the helm of Thriftwood School is Mrs. Pryke, the head of both sites, whose unparalleled leadership fosters a positive environment that resonates throughout the school community. Her dedication to staff and students is evident; teachers are not only well-trained but also possess a deep understanding of each student's unique needs. This synergy creates an atmosphere where children can thrive, highlighting the critical importance of supportive leadership in educational settings.

When Sienna began her education, it quickly became apparent that she faced significant challenges.
Her reception teacher recognised her struggles and advocated for the support she needed, but the reality in many mainstream schools is a lack of funding and resources, often leading to concerns being overlooked.
As Sienna progressed through school, she became increasingly marginalised, overshadowed by both high-achieving students and those who disrupted the classroom.
This experience was heartbreaking for us as parents, and we fought tirelessly to secure an education plan that would provide her with the support she desperately needed.
It took a formal complaint and persistent advocacy to finally receive the help she required, illustrating the urgent need for dedicated resources in the educational system.

After enduring years of frustration and inadequacy, we discovered Thriftwood School. It became clear that this was a place where Sienna would not just be another name on a roster, but a valued student with unique gifts. Upon our visit, we witnessed the incredible work happening within the school—a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to express themselves and are provided with the guidance they need. The moment we learned that Sienna had been offered one of the limited spaces in her year group, we felt an immense sense of relief and gratitude.
Since joining Thriftwood, Sienna has blossomed. She has gained confidence, developed new skills, and been empowered to take on leadership roles, such as captaining her girls' football team.
The school has recognised her strengths and has guided her through challenges, building a foundation of self-belief and resilience. The compassion and commitment demonstrated by her one-on-one support made a world of difference, illustrating the importance of personalised education.

While we celebrate the positive changes in Sienna’s life, we also recognise that there are many other children out there who require similar support and opportunities. The need for funding is critical to ensure that Thriftwood School can continue its vital work and expand its resources.
Every penny raised will directly contribute to enriching programs, staff training, and facilities that cater to the diverse needs of children with learning difficulties.
Your support can help transform lives just like Sienna's.

Join us in raising funds for Thriftwood School to ensure that more children receive the education they deserve—a place where they are nurtured, valued, and encouraged to thrive.
Together, we can create lasting change and make a profound difference in the lives of many children and families.
